The Book That Broke The World
by Mark Lawrence

I’m glad I have to wait until book three so I can re-read book one and two. That way I can really wrap my head around the story. The relationships in this book were so good. I’m glad we were able to get closer to some of the lesser characters from book one.

Pitifully Ugly

My second book by Robin Alexander - this was better than the first one. She has a way of writing that makes the reader just fall in love with the characters - at least the main ones. Alexander's sense of humor and ability to create such real characters makes her novels very readable. Perfect summer reading/listening. (OCPL only has them on Hoopla)

Punching Bag
by Rex Ogle

This is the second book to Rex Ogle’s three-part series. Punching Bag is the true story of Ogle’s high school career which is defined by poverty and outbreaks of domestic abuse. Rex Ogle describes his struggle to survive, reflects on his complicated relationship with his mother, and charts the trajectory of his stepdad’s anger. Hovering over Rex’s story is the presence of his unborn baby sister—Marisa. Throughout the book Rex has moments of grace and humor that act as beacons of light in the continuous darkness. The book is compulsively readable (read almost in one sitting), beautifully written, and authentic.
