Some Places More Than Others
Renee Watson
I am a retired teacher, mother and grandmother. I try to read books that my students, daughter and grandchildren have to read. This book was brought home by my grandson and he asked me to read it. It is a story of family dynamics. Amara is given a school assignment and felt what better way to complete it than by going to NYC to meet her extended family. At the end her dad and grandfather amend their relationship. My family is also estranged. I wish like the book it was that easy to make amends.

Interesting character development, in that we largely meet the main character through the eyes of other people. Each chapter is its own short story.

The Divorce
Freida McFadden
Was very predictable and slow at the start. The characters were quite annoying. The ending got a little better but not my favorite Frieda read. :(

Good People
Patmeena Sabit
Haunting book about a clash of cultures in a modern-day community of Afghan refugees who had settled in the U.S. some 20 years ago during the Russian occupation of Afghanistan. Told entirely from the perspective of family friends, neighbors and others, the story unfolds slowly in a way that results in the reader needing to basically draw his/her own conclusions about the unfolding tragedy. The story is also an indictment of mass media, rumor spreading, racism and hatred towards those of a different faith traditions. The book does take some patience to read as each speaker only departs tiny pieces of information. But, it is worth the wait.

Romancing Mr. Bridgerton
Julia Quinn
As with most in this series, it’s nice for while I’m at work but I don’t think I’d read them “for real”. They’re entertaining enough, but not the next great novel. It’s a sweet book and I enjoyed it, I just like others better.
